On August 1920, two young men left Pattonsburg for Yellowstone Park,
they purchased this 1919 Model T for $400.00, stripped it down and
built their own car with sheetmetal. No windshield, they wore goggles for bug
protection and dust.
When entering the park (cost $3.00), the ranger ran a wire through the barrel of their rifle and placed
a lead seal on each end, so it couldn't be fired in the park.
The price of gasoline in the park cost 40cents a gallon, compared to 22cents in other places.
Their route ran through Iowa, South Dakota, Wyoming and crossed the Missouri River at Mobridge, South Dakota, on a ferry. At Aberdeen South Dakota, the roads ended and from there on they drove on grassy prairies.
